Your honeymoon is supposed to be a time where you and your boo can relax and just enjoy each other after months of wedding planning. It’s a time to reconnect and start your marriage off on a blissful and stress free note. Now, that doesn’t mean that you have to go on your honeymoon right off the bat. Many couples are opting to do a honeymoon months or even a year later as an anniversary-moon.

We’ve also included some tips in this Wedding Blog from one of our favorite travel agents in the Orlando area. Tiffany with Travel Market will be hosting a giveaway with us! Read through this blog and find the giveaway information at the bottom of the page!!

Here’s some tips to help get your honeymoon planning started!

  • Step One: Set a budget. Yep, same step one as planning a wedding. The last thing you want to do is be deep in the red after you come home sun soaked from a week in paradise.

    • 🔥TIFFANY’S HOT TIP🔥: Attempt to aim for a budget of at least $3,500 per week of your honeymoon!

  • Start planning as soon as possible, if you have the option give yourself at least 9-12 months in advance. This helps you get the best rates!

  • Sit down with your fiancé and ask these questions:

    • Do you want something adventurous or relaxing?

    • Do you want somewhere cold or warm?

    • Do you prefer somewhere on the beach or in the mountains?

    • Do you like touristy cityscape or off-the-path local vibes?

    • Do you prefer seeing history or somewhere modern?

    • Do you prefer stateside or overseas?

    • Do you want to learn about local history or do you just want to relax?

These questions will help you narrow down where in this gigantic, beautiful world you want to go and what you want to do when you get there.

  • To expand on my last question, consider what you want to spend your time doing while you’re there. Research those things

    • Are you going to stay on-resort or adventure in the area?

    • How much does a day pass at a fancy resort cost?

    • How much does that ghost tour cost?

    • How much does the food at that 5 star restaurant cost?

    • Are there any excursion deals for that scuba trip you’ve always wanted to do?

    • Is there an activity you can only do in that area you don’t want to miss out on?

This will help you narrow down your budget needs, and figure out what to focus on as well

  • Consider when you’d like to honeymoon. There are no rules! You can go right after your wedding while the ink is still drying, have a mini-moon right after your wedding to someplace local and go big later, or wait months or even a year after your wedding. Do it when it works for you financially and schedule wise.

  • Where to get the funds:

    • Plan ahead and save on your own.

    • Start a Honeyfund - Honeyfund is a website that helps you gather funds in the form of gifts from your wedding guests. It’s like a registry but for cash only. Guests can buy you two dinner, a massage, a night on the town, a stay at a resort - you name it, they can help contribute to your adventure if you prefer that over traditional gifts and registries.

  • PRO TIP✨: “No presents please, we just need money!!” If you’re having a hard time figuring out how to say this… without exactly saying this, here is some verbiage to put on your registry page to help you word this in a way that might make you feel more comfortable!

    • “Thank you for considering a gift for our wedding, we can’t tell you how much we appreciate it! Fiancé and I are so grateful that we have been blessed to have many of the items that make our house a home together. With that, we would love if you wanted give the gift of memories and contribute to our Honeyfund! We would love to think of you during these priceless moments”

OR

  • We love and appreciate your thoughtfulness in giving us a wedding gift! We have decided that instead of traditional gifts to fill our home, we would love to grow our collection of memories together. Our honeymoon will be our first adventure together as a couple and if you are generously thinking of giving us a gift, we would love that gift to go towards those memories that will last a lifetime.

  • 🔥TIFFANY’S HOT TIP🔥: If you’re planning on just laying on the beach all weekend with unlimited pina coladas, then go all inclusive. If you want to get out and explore and be immersed in culture then go ala carte so you have all the options! Bottom line, do what you want to do! Live on the edge… of a cliff, or an infinity pool - you decide!

  • Do you want to live like a local for your honeymoon? Consider looking into Airbnb’s with kitchens or kitchenettes where you can make some of your own meals from locally sourced ingredients!

    • PRO TIP✨: Many Airbnbs in hot destination areas will have activities included or available. Some of these include a local personal chef! There’s nothing more romantic than a private dinner with a complete local cuisine!

  • Compare, compare, compare. Just like you did when you were finding the right vendors for your wedding, compare car rental companies, hotels, restaurants, tours. Find the one that’s right for you at the price that’s right for you!

    • Just like your Orlando Wedding Planner helped get you through your wedding, your Travel Agent is here to help you make all these comparisons stress free!

  • We have to mention this because unfortunately, it’s just a reality for travel these days. Be sure to check the COVID travel restrictions for where you are planning to travel, especially internationally. The CDC website for all of these restrictions can be found here. Also check your destinations health department specifics, as they may differ from the CDC recommendations. There were also once pretty strict travel restrictions for Hawaii so be sure to double check the islands’ status before you go! Tiffany says, covid Restrictions have lightened up a lot, but if traveling internationally a negative covid test may still be required to re-enter the states. Most resorts offer covid testing on-premise at an additional charge. There are also self administered, proctored tests you can order ahead of time that are accepted for travel as well if you do not have resort access. If you are cruising then carrying a vaccination card is highly suggested, if you have one! As you know, these things change all the time so be sure to ask your Travel Agent or do the right research!

  • Lastly, consider getting a travel agent, like Tiffany! We promise, it will give you the ultimate peace of mind. With a travel agent you know you will be getting the best deal, the best customer service and if anything happens to go wrong you have a helpful and knowledgeable point of contact to make sure it is taken care of. No worrying about long holds with airlines or cruise lines or looking up travel visa requirements. A Travel agent does all the nitty-gritty work so you can just relax and concentrate on planning your post-big-day-adventure!
